Innovation in neurointervention is moving at an extraordinary pace — and the women shaping this field are at the forefront of that transformation.
In this WIN video, members of the global Women in Neurointervention community reflect on the advances that have most influenced their daily practice, from 3D simulation technologies that enhance aneurysm procedures to next-generation thrombectomy devices that may expand treatment possibilities to paediatric patients.
Several contributors highlight the rapid evolution of endovascular innovation, including MMA embolisation, now becoming part of routine clinical practice, and emerging approaches such as cyclic aspiration, large-bore catheter systems, and even endovascular brain–computer interfaces. These developments are not only transforming patient care but opening entirely new therapeutic horizons.
Beyond technology, the video also addresses the human side of neurointervention. Speakers reflect on the challenges women may face in the field — from pregnancy and working in the angio suite to the historical lack of visible role models — while emphasising the powerful progress made in recent years.
The growth of the WIN community has been central to this shift. Through global networking, real-time peer support, and shared experience, WIN has created a space that empowers women, strengthens professional confidence, and fosters collaboration across borders.
At its core, this video captures what drives neurointervention forward: passion, innovation, resilience, and community. For these women, neurointervention is not just a profession — it is a vocation that blends science, creativity, challenge, and purpose.
A special thank you to Franziska Dorn, Nadine Hans and Helena Guerreiro for their invaluable help and support with this project and initiative.
