In this video, Paul Bhogal, Consultant Interventional Neuroradiologist at Royal London Hospital, shares reflections on stroke pathway redesign and the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in delivering faster, more effective care.
Drawing on his experience leading the Mechanical Thrombectomy Network and stroke research, Paul discusses how partnering with Philips enabled the team to step back from day-to-day pressures and re-examine the entire stroke pathway — from imaging and diagnostics to treatment delivery in the angio suite.
The conversation highlights the reality of modern clinical environments, where time pressures and siloed working can limit visibility across the pathway. By bringing clinicians, radiographers, porters, management, and industry partners into the same room, the project helped uncover unseen challenges and identify opportunities for optimisation.
Paul reflects on the philosophy of seeking incremental “1% gains” across the pathway — small improvements that, when combined, can translate into significant time savings and improved patient outcomes. He also looks ahead to future developments, including direct-to-angio workflows, minimally invasive haematoma evacuation, and the potential for pre-hospital diagnostics.
Ultimately, this discussion underscores the value of continuous iteration, open-minded collaboration, and recognising the role every team member plays in delivering high-quality stroke care — where every minute truly matters.
Many thanks to Philips for supporting this video.
