The EPDA website Parkinson’s Life – the online lifestyle magazine offering a voice to the global Parkinson’s community – launched its first podcast in May 2019.
Designed to offer an uninterrupted space for people living with Parkinson’s, the podcast brings together two people to talk openly and honestly about the realities of life with Parkinson’s – and to share ideas about living well with the condition.
Episode 1: Parenting with Parkinson’s
Episode One, which was launched on Thursday 16 May 2019, brings together Canada-based broadcaster Larry Gifford and American blogger and communications director Allison Toepperwein – both of whom have the condition and are also parents – to discuss family life with Parkinson’s.

Episode 2: Caring for a family member with Parkinson’s
In Episode Two, which was launched on Thursday 20 June 2019, Ola Larsson from Sweden and Ivona Cudova from the Czech Republic – who both care for a family member with Parkinson’s – talk about how taking on the role of carer has impacted their relationships, and why seeking support from people in a similar position is an important coping strategy.

Episode 3: Parkinson’s and work
In Episode Three, which went live on 18 July 2019, Elisabeth Ildal from Denmark and Gary Boyle from Ireland – who both live with young-onset Parkinson’s – discuss what it is like managing your working life with Parkinson’s, connecting over their experiences of telling employers about their diagnosis and choosing whether to continue working or take a step back from a career.

Episode 4: Parkinson’s assessment tools
In Episode Four, which went live on 19 September 2019, Portuguese physiotherapist Josefa Domingos talks with her patient Idelta Oliveira, who lives with Parkinson’s disease. Together, they discuss how a new clinical assessment tool, the Parkinson’s Disease Composite Scale (PDCS), changed the way they communicate in their appointments and enhanced Idelta’s treatment: thanks to the rating scale, Idelta’s experience can be discussed in a “common language” that all healthcare professionals understand.
