Every minute counts: Education, research and strong stroke services give patients the best possible chance of recovery
Zurich, Switzerland: On World Stroke Day, the European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (ESMINT) calls for sustained investment in education, research and stroke services.
This year’s World Stroke Day campaign, “Every M1nute Counts”, highlights the importance of recognising stroke symptoms and seeking emergency medical care without delay.
Mechanical thrombectomy has transformed the treatment of stroke caused by large-vessel occlusion, giving many patients a better chance of returning to an independent life.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that more patients benefit from this progress through timely access to treatment, skilled teams and well-coordinated stroke networks. Every minute counts, and every eligible patient deserves the best possible chance of recovery,” says Prof. Christian Taschner, President of ESMINT.
ESMINT supports these goals through its EXMINT programme, practical skills training and fellowships, helping physicians develop the expertise needed for endovascular stroke treatment. Together with partner societies, ESMINT develops evidence-based guidelines and training standards, promotes clinical research and shares knowledge across borders. These efforts help build skilled teams and strengthen stroke care across Europe and beyond.
About ESMINT
ESMINT (European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy) was established in 2009 to promote the benefits of minimally invasive neurological therapies in Europe through training and education and high-quality scientific research. It is an interdisciplinary society, representing medical practitioners and scientists working in the field of neuroradiology, interventional neuroradiology, neurointerventional surgery, endovascular neurosurgery, and vascular neurology.
