Epstein–Barr virus activity may begin decades before multiple sclerosis develops
A Brain study using pre-symptomatic blood samples found that people who later developed multiple sclerosis showed stronger antibody responses to lytic Epstein–Barr virus antigens more than 20 years before clinical onset. EBV-related immune changes were followed by emerging autoantibody responses and later increases in neurofilament light, supporting a possible sequence from viral activity to autoimmunity and neuroaxonal injury. Earlier sodium channel blocker treatment linked to better outcomes in KCNQ2 disorders
A retrospective Brain study examined treatment timing in people with KCNQ2-related epilepsy and neurodevelopmental disorders. Earlier initiation of sodium channel blockers was associated with earlier seizure freedom and more favourable developmental outcomes, adding support for their early use in appropriately diagnosed KCNQ2 disorders. Different alpha-synuclein aggregates trigger distinct patterns of tau pathology
Research in non-human primates found that different forms of alpha-synuclein aggregates produced differing profiles of tau phosphorylation and accumulation. Small alpha-synuclein aggregates appeared particularly capable of promoting tau co-pathology, offering further insight into how proteinopathies may interact in Parkinson’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. Inflammatory cytokines may help predict outcome after endovascular stroke treatment
A study of patients undergoing endovascular therapy for acute ischaemic stroke found that early circulating inflammatory markers, including interleukin-6 and interleukin-10, were associated with 90-day functional outcome. Incorporating cytokine measurements into prognostic models may eventually help improve post-thrombectomy risk stratification, although external validation is required. Published 26 August 2026.

Real-world study examines short-term preventive use of rimegepant in migraine
New US real-world research assessed how men and women use rimegepant for short-term migraine prevention around predictable triggers. Most participants reported being satisfied with treatment, while some differences emerged between sexes in migraine triggers and patterns of use. The findings provide additional evidence on how CGRP-targeted therapy is being used outside traditional continuous preventive regimens.

Long-term DBS outcomes reported in severe treatment-resistant OCD
A new study examined long-term outcomes following deep brain stimulation targeting the nucleus accumbens/anterior limb of the internal capsule in people with severe treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder. Study explores nutritional and biochemical factors associated with childhood ADHD
